The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recently announced the winners of its 2013 Healthcare Interior Design Competition.

The coveted Best of Competition award went to RTKL of Dallas, Texas for its work on the Baylor Medical Center at McKinney in Dallas. The project also won the Best in Category prize for hospitals. The jury of design professional chose Baylor for its use of natural light, a contemporary palette and exterior green space to create a successful healing environment.

"The eclectic mix of color and pattern creates a simultaneously intimate and grand space at the same time without overwhelming the patient," said one of the judges, Kimberly L. Overton, Associate, Director of Interior Design for Leo A Daly. "Natural light and materials are controlled in a beautiful uplifting way. In particular the attention to the foot wall in the patient room makes the patient feel special and safe."
