Many evidence-informed infection prevention and control (IP&C) practices in healthcare facilities depends on compliance with engineering controls to be effective. Wading through the extensive and continuously updated litany of guidance documents/recommendations pertaining to IP&C can be a difficult challenge for engineers with competing priorities. The objectives of this presentation include a review of current and emerging trends in IP&C, build capacity in healthcare engineers to understand rationale for IP&C decisions-making and emphasize how healthcare engineers play a role in the ongoing pursuit in quality, patient/resident safety & minimizing healthcare-associated infections
