Don Spielmacher received his award at the 26th CHES Annual Meeting held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on September 17, 2006. Don has been an active member of CHES since 1980. He recently retired from Hanover & District Memorial Hospital, where he worked for 33 years as vice president of environmental services.
Don devoted his time and efforts to a number of activities within the Society. He served as Vice President of CHES, President from 2001 to 2003 and Past President from 2003 to 2005. As President, he represented CHES nationally and internationally at numerous events and guided the Society in its daily activities. Don was an active member of Region 5 North of the Ontario Chapter of CHES which, through his assistance and leadership, became one of the strongest groups in the province. He was editor-in-chief of the CHES Ontario newsletter and was also very active in organizing the annual conference and trade show both nationally and for the section.
