CHES Members Invited to Nominate for Vice President

Members in the Regular Membership Classification are eligible for office, providing they meet the By-Law requirements in Article 6; Governance, Item 6.3.3 Eligibility.

Due to the current vacancy of the Vice President on the CHES Executive and Board of Directors, and as announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 16th, 2025, an early election cycle is being held for the Vice President position.

The candidate whom the membership elects will not only become Vice President at the September 2026 AGM, but will also be appointed by the Board to fulfill the vacant role effective completion of the election (expected in late January 2026) to September 2026. The successful candidate will carry on through the normal Executive position cycle, serving as Vice President until the September 2028 AGM, upon which time they will become the CHES President, until the AGM in September 2030, and then serve as Immediate Past President until the AGM in September 2032.

An election for the other Executive positions expiring at the September 2026 AGM, that being for Secretary and Treasurer, will be held beginning following the normal election cycle beginning early February 2026.

Nomination deadline: November 20, 2025

Nominations can be received either by:

  • Members identifying and nominating eligible qualified candidates
  • Members who are interested in standing may submit their own name as a candidate

Basic function and responsibilities of a Board Executive member:

  • Lead strategic planning
  • Create a financial plan to support the Society
  • Establish metrics to ensure measurement of progress across the entire Society
  • Supports Committees, which do the work of CHES
  • Prepare tactical and operational plans towards the Strategic Plan for Board of Director approval
  • Supports the tactical and operational plans developed by the Committees

In fulfilling these duties, the Vice-President, as a member of the Executive:

  • Serves a two-year term, after which they will become the CHES President, and after a two-year term as President, will further serve as the Immediate Past President. Attends Executive meetings (via virtual methods monthly, or more frequently as required)
  • Attends Board Meetings via virtual methods quarterly and in-person at the annual conference (financial assistance provided for conference travel expenses)
  • Carries out projects as assigned by the President
  • Prepares written report of activities for each Board meeting
  • Acts as the Executive liaison to the National Conference Planning committee and Professional Development Committee

Candidates must be a Regular member in good standing of the Society for a minimum of two years and have served 2 years as an active member on either the Board of Directors, as a National Committee Chair, or a Chapter Chair. Candidate shall be in compliance with all provisions of the By-Laws, having the ability to carry out the fundamental duties of the assignments of the Board. Candidates shall obtain the approval of their employer for permission to serve on the Board.
