This exciting tour will begin with busses picking you up for a 7:30 departure from the Delta Brunswick and a 7:45 departure from the Hilton Saint John to St. Andrews by the Sea (established in 1783) as the destination. You will be taken for a whale watching cruise along the Bay of Fundy where you will have the opportunity to spot Finback, Minke and Humpback whales, porpoises, dolphins, seals, and more! A memorable morning! (Please dress appropriately for a morning out on the water). Lunch will then be served for you at Kingsbrae Garden. For the afternoon, you will have the choice to take a Highlights Tour of St. Andrews by the Sea (with some shopping time allocated afterwards) or take a tour of beautiful Kingsbrae Garden. The magnificent 27-acre horticultural garden has much to offer, with over 50,000 perennials in many themed gardens, engaging animals, ponds, and much more.  Return to hotel for 17:30.

Monday, September 29 2014 - Exploring Our Host City
10:15-13:00

For the Monday leg of the Companion Program, you will be taken on an in-depth tour of your conference’s host city, Saint John. Established in 1604, Saint John is the largest city in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, and the second largest in the Maritime Provinces. It is known as the Fundy City due to its location on the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the Saint John River, as well as being the only city on the bay. You will visit a number of sites that make this city special.

Bring your camera!

The City Tour will end at the City Market, where you will have the choice to procur lunch or return to the hotel as it is just a short walk away.

Music columnist Gerry Taylor wrote in the Telegraph-Journal:
"... the Saint John area's premier folk act Before the Mast makes shanties and other sea songs an art form. An a cappella  group that varies  the lead and harmony voices, Before the Mast pays homage to our maritime heritage....Before the Mast is just about as energetic as a traditional sea-song singing chorus can get without busting a barnacle. They’re witty too and wrapped-in-canvas entertainers all.....whose seafaring tales, fact and fiction, will astound you."

Jean-Francois Blais commented on his internet radio show Bordel de Mer, recorded at "La Fête des chants de marins" in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec, “Before the Mast has great energy and presence on stage, rich harmonies, and a wonderful rapport with audiences.” He goes on to say that members of the group “don't merely sing shanties, they live them !”
